Dental Sealant

img

Applied to the chewing surfaces of teeth to 'seal them off' from the plaque and germs that cause cavities, dental sealants are protective clear plastic coatings.

Since the molars are the teeth that undergo the most chewing and have large crevices where bacteria can lurk, sealants are typically put to these teeth. In order to serve as a barrier against the germs, the sealant will fill in and cover any crevices on the tooth. They are even better because applying the sealant is a quick and easy operation!

One of the most significant developments in preventive dentistry is the use of fissure sealants. They have come to be largely recognised as the method that has made the biggest contribution to reducing the rate of childhood caries since they were initially introduced in the USA in late 1960.
